Custom Domain

By default, inboxes live on the shared mail.clawise.dev domain. To send and receive from your own brand (e.g., [email protected]), register a domain and add the DNS records Clawise provides.

Why a custom domain?

Add a domain

Custom domains are configured through the Clawise Dashboard.

Open Mail → New domain

Go to the Mail page and click New domain in the page header.

Enter your domain

Type the domain you want to use for sending and receiving email (e.g., your-company.com) and click Continue. Clawise registers the domain and generates the DNS records.

Add DNS records to your registrar

The dashboard shows a table of records with four columns: Type, Name, Value, Status. Click the copy button next to each Name and Value to copy them into your DNS provider (Cloudflare, Route53, Namecheap, etc.).

Wait for verification

DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours. Each record shows Pending until detected, then OK. The overall domain status flips from pending to verified once all records are detected. Re-open the domain from the Mail page's Domains tab to see the current status.

DNS records

The exact records depend on your domain configuration, but typically cover four functions:

PurposeTypical record
DKIM signing — proves messages came from your domainCNAME records pointing to Clawise-managed signing keys
Inbound routing — directs incoming mail to ClawiseMX on your domain
SPF — authorizes Clawise to send on behalf of your domainTXT on your domain
DMARC — tells receivers what to do with unauthenticated mailTXT on _dmarc.<your-domain>

The dashboard shows you the exact set to add. In your DNS provider's control panel (Cloudflare, Route53, Namecheap, etc.), create a new record for each row — pick the matching Type and paste the Name and Value exactly as shown. All records must be detected before the domain can send and receive.

Domain status

StatusMeaning
pendingDNS records not yet fully detected
verifiedAll records detected, ready to send and receive
failedVerification still failing after the backend's retry window — fix your DNS records and the next periodic recheck will pick them up

A verified domain stays verified as long as its DNS records remain in place. Removing or changing them eventually flips the domain back to failed on the next periodic recheck.

Send from your verified domain

Once verified, create inboxes on that domain (see Inboxes) and send through any SDK:

await clawise.mail.messages.send({
  from: "[email protected]",
  to: ["[email protected]"],
  subject: "Welcome",
  body_html: "<p>Hi.</p>",
});
